Board Minutes – March 9, 2020

The Adams County Board of Supervisors met on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 9:00 am with the following members present: Leland Shipley, Scott Akin, Doug Birt, Merlin Dixon, and Bobbi Maynes. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Scott Akin. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Dixon moved, seconded by Shipley to approve the day’s agenda along with the March 2, 2020 minutes. All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried.

There were no public comments.

            Ben Mullen updated the board on Veteran Affairs Director, Jim Reilly’s accreditation. After Reilly attends the upcoming spring school he will be back in compliance.

Discussion on projects for future TIF funding was tabled.

Veteran Affairs Director Jim Reilly discussed setting up an account to receive donations supporting honor flights for our local veterans that local citizens and groups could use for making contributions. 

Birt moved, seconded by Maynes to approve the Permit for Supervised Display of Fireworks to the Conservation Board for the Independence Day celebration to be held on July 3rd, 2020. All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried.

The Board of Supervisors, under the authority of the 2020 Code of Iowa, formed a canvassing board to check the returns of the Special School Election for the Creston and Lenox School Districts held on March 3, 2020.  The findings, thereof, are recorded at length in Election Book #8 in the Adams County Auditor’s Office as required by Section 50.27 of the 2020 Code of Iowa. No obvious clerical errors were identified during the canvass and there were no special ballots that were rejected and not counted.  A total of 63 votes were cast in Adams County.  Pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 50.22, 0 provisional ballots were received. The canvass of the March 3, 2020, Special Election for the Creston and Lenox School District was approved.
